OUTCOME OF AERA SPECIAL GENERAL MEETING

The Australian Endurance Riders Association Inc. (AERA) held a Special General Meeting (SGM) on 4 June 2026 to consider three motions put forward by Division Association (DA) members.

The meeting was convened following a valid requisition from four Division Associations. The meeting achieved a quorum, which for a Special General Meeting requires the presence of not less than 75 per cent of the total number of Delegates eligible to cast votes, total of 11 votes.

The voting results for the three proposed resolutions are as follows:

1. Directive on Tom Quilty Qualification Requirements from 1 January 2027 (Carried)

A motion was passed directing the Management Committee to maintain the rider qualification criterion of completion of a 160 km ride in a 24-hour period from 1 January 2027.

While previous drafts used undefined terminology such as "open status," this resolution correctly aligns with the 2026 AERA General Rules. Under the Constitution, the Management Committee’s power to manage the association is subject to such resolutions passed at an SGM.

2. Directive on incorporation of the TQ Manual into the AERA Rulebook (withdrawn)

This motion had sought to incorporate the entirety of the TQ Manual into the AERA Rulebook as a new section. This motion was withdrawn without further discussion.

3. Directive on inclusion of the Tom Quilty Rider Qualification in the AERA Rulebook (carried)

A motion was passed directing the Management Committee to include the Tom Quilty Gold Cup rider qualifications as determined in Motion 1 in the AERA Rulebook with immediate effect. This means that what has been a requirement as set by AERA will become a rule, subject to the AERA By-law Adoption of New Rules for future changes.

This motion had been proposed if motion 2 was not carried.

Management Statement

The high level of engagement from our Division Associations at this meeting underscores the democratic nature of our national body. The outcomes of these motions provide clear direction for the Management Committee, particularly regarding entry requirements for our national championship, the Tom Quilty Gold Cup and how changes may be managed in the future.

For further information regarding the minutes of this meeting or the revised rules, Division Associations should contact the AERA Secretary within 30 days to receive the formal draft records.
