Australian Endurance Riders Association (AERA) advises that there was an Adverse Analytical Finding involving prohibited substances from samples taken at the Tom Quilty Gold Cup 2026.
A sample taken from Brookleigh Danu tested positive to the prohibited substance Flunixin which is listed as a controlled medication on the FEI list of prohibited substances.
Brookleigh Danu and rider Nikki Sample have been disqualified from the ride, with the loss of all associated awards, and a financial penalty has been imposed in accordance with AERA EADCM Rules.
Matthew Sample is registered as the owner of the horse and has also been required to pay a financial penalty and is ineligible as a member for 6 months.
AERA reminds all persons involved in the sport of endurance to be aware of what is being given to horses under their care.
