The AERA Management Committee is very pleased to announce that Tom McCormack has been granted Life Membership of the Australian Endurance Riders Association Inc.
Tom was nominated by the New South Wales Endurance Riders Association. Tom has served our sport since 1987 with untiring dedication to a huge range of tasks. He has not only diligently applied himself to these tasks but has also initiated and developed huge improvements within our sport.
Tom is known for his clear thinking and fair-minded application of the rules, his willingness to listen and work with others, and his calm manner in dealing with disputes. Endurance participants all over Australia have long benefited from Tom’s skills and dedication. Tom’s contributions to endurance include:
- NSWERA delegate to AERA from 2008 until 2013
- President of AERA from 2011 to 2013
- Chief Steward from 2003 and has officiated at more than 53 rides
- Head Chief Steward for 13 Tom Quilty events covering every state
- Assistant Chef D’Equipe on the National Endurance Sports Committee in 2017
- Accredited FEI Judge and Chief Steward
- Updated the TQ Event Standards, TQ Manual and TPR Accreditation in 2014
- In 2015 he initiated and is still extending the AERASpace Electronic Timing System
- Initiated a national track marking system in 2013
- Assisted in the further development of AERASpace from 2014
- Presided over the major rewrite of the AERA Rule Book in 2015
- Lead the delegation to Equestrian Australia to discuss the amended EA/AERA agreement in 2011
