Statement on COVID-19 and Endurance Rides

The number of cases of COVID-19 in Australia is growing rapidly. Authorities have implemented a number of measures to minimise the associated risks to human health. These are detailed at the Australian Government’s Department of Health website.

AERA has provided the following information to its Divisional Associations and has posted it on the AERA website.

In light of the announcement by authorities on 22nd March of stricter social distancing and other infection control measures to combat the COVID-19 virus, AERA has asked all state Divisional Associations to immediately suspend all endurance rides until further notice.

AERA understands and appreciates that some Divisions have already taken this action.

The new measures announced include the advice that all non-essential travel and all non-essential activities and services be cancelled. Endurance riding is clearly a non-essential activity that involves non-essential travel.

AERA believes the only responsible course of action is to immediately suspend all rides.

AERA will review the situation regularly and will issue updated advice when it is indicated.

AERA appreciates the co-operation of Divisions in these difficult times.
